The idea

We have created a shoe brand with strong association to nature and Nordic, Scandinavian

tradition. The whole point of a BARKU shoe is to protect and take care of

the sensitive feet of yours, so that you can enjoy wherever you go and whatever

you do, right here, right now. BARKU will solve the challenge and give you amplified,

positive experiences.

Nature

Our origin is nature. In the Nordics, we still have a strong connection to nature.

BARKU should move in nature. We who have made BARKU are natural people -

we are outdoors men. We know the whims of the forest and mountains. We can

also make a fire - when it rains and snows, in the forest and on the mountain. We

know what joys in life nature can provide, how vulnerable it is. Just therefore we

must take care of it.

Nordic tradition

It is important for us to represent and be associated with a Nordic value set.

We value democracy and each individual co-determination over one’s own life.

Equality and freedom to love whoever you want has solid roots. We have strong

roots in enjoying the simple life and living it close to nature. That is why we want

to take care of nature. Our leaders want not to rule over others in the world but

seek to live in harmony and peace. We will protect our values and stand up for

what we believe in.

Protect

BARKU will protect you from weather and wind, different surfaces with different

friction and be just so solid, steady and light that it can give you maximum pleasure.

You must be able to concentrate on the experience: the joy, the competition,

the training, the technique, or the performance.

The name

In old Norwegian, norrønt, “bark” means following:

Bark is the protection of the tree

» Bark is the clothing of the tree.

» Bark keeps sun, rain, cold and fire away from destroying the tree.

Bark gives life

» The sap from the tree gives nutrition and life - if the bark breaks, the tree dies.

» With the bark, you can make fire in all weathers - the art of making fire gave

us people warmth and life, and a superiority over other living beings.

» Bark is also food for humans and animals.

Bark is a utility item

» Bark has been used as a building material in unusual times. For clothing, houses,

shoes, tools, and decorations.

Bark is a renewable resource

» Bark is a well-known and beloved natural material.

» Bark is used in all forms; new, old, and dead.

Epilogue

We who make BARKU shoes have roots going back to the 70s with making shoes

for the extreme use. We started by developing orienteering shoes - the shoes

that take a tougher beating than any other shoe that should have super grip and

be feather-light. We made the first o-shoe with metal studs. We can say that we

introduced trail running to the Nordics with shoes and anchorage. We have won

world championships. We put our love into being innovative. We can make shoes

for extreme use. We will continue with that!

CARBON TECHNOLOGY

For the runner who wants to get improved speed and experience something

revolutionizing, the carbon reinforced Lunas are the choice of shoe! A carbon

plate is placed in the front 2/3 of the sole, enhancing the running stride

with energy return and improving stability. The strength of the carbon plate

goes straigt to the ground, pushing the cleats to grip deep into the ground.

The carbon plate also gives 100% protection against rocks and other sharp

objects when traversing the unknown.
